Wow This one goes way back. This was in Oklahoma City, OK. As I understand it this was the first piece the local PM Magazine on KFOR-TV did that aired nationally.
Side note, the host Karen Carney who told me her brother is the great multi-award-winning magician John Carney! How cool was that?
Karen and her crew followed me for a couple of days and we had a blast. I totally forgot before seeing this old tape that the upside-down hanging straitjacket over Oklahoma almost ended in disaster. My wrist is wrapped in an ace bandage because I had just broken it in a 3-wheeler accident and my manager at the time wanted me to use that bright yellow polypropylene rope because it shows up well on tv against my black pants, I told him the knots don't hold well because its a stiff slippery plastic rope but Ill try it anyway.
Ok, you know I hate heights and so here I am upside down a long way up in a straitjacket with a broken wrist and rope that is slipping of my ankles in the high wind. Every time I moved that rope slipped, I had no safety precautions, I knew I was coming down hard and fast and far and just hoped it would be lights out forever fast... Somehow it held...I got out! my life would never be the same...
