Michael Griffin Official Trailer

Michael Griffin, America’s Escape Hero has been described as a modern-day Griffin, the mythical animal had the head and wings of an eagle and the body and legs of a lion.  It possessed keen sight, the strength to fly forever, and the power and agility to overcome any obstacle.  Today we have a human Griffin…Michael Griffin.  Like the legendary beast, Michael possesses the physical and mental attributes to perform such amazing feats of escape that even the most dubious of onlookers have been totally amazed and overwhelmed.

Michael Griffin has become the most interesting escape performer in the last few decades, not because of what he has done, but what he hasn't done.  Michael's focus on escape is from a viewpoint of being original, and not from rehashing the old escapes of the long-gone Houdini.  While it must be said that Michael does use straitjackets, handcuffs, and ropes similar to those from the days of Houdini, so do most mental institutions and police departments.  What sets Michael apart is that he is constantly finding new ways to use those restraints to bring freshness and originality, as well as believability to the art of escapology.

One of the most fantastic escapes ever performed by anyone was done in 1983 when Michael escaped from a thirteen-knot hangman's noose in 52 seconds, receiving national coverage for his exploit.  In the escape, Michael's hands were tied behind his back while he sat high in the saddle on top of a horse.  A noose was placed around his neck and tightened.  Just like in an old western, the horse was shooed away, and, in the words of Griffin, "the pain was terrible.  I thought my God, I broke off my rear teeth as the 13-knot noose closed shut on my neck tightened by my swinging weight."  (Globe, 31 Jan. 1984).   Michael griffin became the first person to ever survive a public hanging in what most escape artists say is the one escape that they would never attempt.

One of Michael's main focuses in the field of escape had become the '"Challenge Escape," and he is quickly becoming widely known for that.  One of the first types of challenges Michael embarked upon was the challenge of handcuff escape.  He felt a need to add something different to the basic escape.  Instead of looking at the hokiness of the full view handcuff release, or the very lacking of entertainment value climbing behind the curtain, Michael came up with the idea of having the cuffs placed on him and then climbing inside of a large bag, which is then closed.

How does Griffin do what he does? Michael takes escapes to the extreme challenge in many forms including escaping water-filled sealed oil drums, the most complex police restraints, and even mental hospitals. One of his most interesting on-stage challenges is an 1880s Navy Seabag, most notably called the cloth coffin.

Griffin has taken passé escape concepts to an escalated level - into a new realm of risk in the art of escapology. What ordinarily would be a well-known handcuff escape Griffin adds the suffocating dare of having to escape from them inside a heavy airtight canvas sack, which is the most original escape today. Even the U.S. Government hasn’t been able to hold him in a real Postal Mailbag locked on the outside by a high-security Government lock!

“Sometimes I feel like a gunfighter in the old west, never knowing what challenges are coming my way, and never being able to let my guard down”, says Griffin.

About Michael Griffin:

Performing astonishing escapes and setting records around the World for over two decades, He is One of a Kind; The only 2-Time Winner of TV's World Magic Awards for Best Escape Artist. Proclaimed "The Ultimate Escape Artist" by Ripley's Believe It Or Not TV. Star of TV's Masters Of Illusion, and many network TV Shows, Michael Griffin is considered the Greatest Living Escape Artist. He is the ONLY escape artist to ever survive a hanging on the back of a horse with a thirteen-knot Hangman’s Noose in 52 seconds! What’s the secret? It’s Griffin’s strong mind, conviction, heart, and belief. “I do not use drugs or alcohol. I never have and I never will. I simply do not believe in their illusion, nor the illusion of negative thinking which is the toughest strait jacket we will ever face; but, if you put your mind to it, and you believe in yourself, you will always escape”.
